What is it going to be like?
Once you’ve decided that you are going to book a sailing adventure with us on RumAway, the next thought is generally “I have so many questions and I don’t where to start??” So we thought we’d ease your mind and give some explanation on what a sailing trip on RumAway will be like. Let’s start with the packing, and our advice, keep it simple! You will live in swimsuits, coverups and flip-flops, and a few outfits for trips ashore, but less is more down here in the islands. And don’t pack in a large rolling suitcase if you can avoid it, because it will be tough to store onboard if we have a full boat. Double down on sunblock , but if you forget something, we have the boat quite well stocked. Every cabin has a hair dryer included, but we like our hair salty on RumAway!
I’ve always dreamed of sailing, but I am afraid I will be seasick!
This catamaran is a pretty sturdy girl! And on a general charter, you can expect to be sailing for 2-3 hours a day, sometimes even less. We will do everything we can to ensure you are comfortable, and we have several tips to help keep you feeling great. Over all of our years of sailing, we have come up with the following keys to feeling good at sea:
Stay hydrated! This means keep drinking water (in between cocktails of course) and ginger ale is always on board to make you feel better.
Stay above deck whenever we are moving! That is key to be able to keep your eyes on the horizon and feeling good.
Medications help! Stock up on Dramamine and bring the scopalamine patches along that can be prescribed by your doctor before your trip. It’s best to start the medication the night before you come aboard, that really helps! On RumAway, we keep 3 bracelets called ReliefBands onboard to help with any of our guests who are feeling uncomfortable.
And we will do our part to make sure that if there are extra breezy days that we alter the itinerary to tuck up into a nice smooth anchorage.
Smooth Seas…
We have spent many a year dreaming of sailing our boat on glassy turquoise waters, with turtles and rays swimming under the boat and dreams DO become reality!
Beach Bars…
Ahhhh, the beach bars! Who doesn’t like to jump out of the dinghy onto beautiful sand and spend an afternoon watching the waves and ordering up island cocktails?
